Eugene Onegin

Original version by Yuri Bashmet after motifs of the novel by Alexander Pushkin and the opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky

Marking the birthday of maestro Yuri Bashmet

In his own version of Eugene Onegin (after motifs of the novel by Alexander Pushkin and the opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky) Yuri Bashmet has been surprisingly successful in blending together the classical traditions of Russian music, the intonation melodies of the poetry and a strikingly contemporary sound while retaining the feel of the novel.
The unique nature of this version lies in the fact that together with a symphony orchestra, opera singers and a chorus there will be appearances by dramatic actors who will breathe life into the verse of Pushkin’s poem while the audience will be fully immersed in the atmosphere of the 19th century. The whole is a stunning synthesis of music, poetry and dramatic acting skills.
