Fruity Piano

interactive sessions for children aged 6 to 9
in English without Russian translation

For the first time in Russia, interesting sound experiments await curious young audiences in the Amphitheatre of the new stage of the Mariinsky Theatre at sessions as part of the Fruity Piano programme. Here, in engaging play-form with enthusiastic educators, children will discover what musical qualities exist in everyday objects that surround them – they will hear the voices of an apple, banana and pear, they will invent a musical instrument of their own, they will conceive their own timbre and they will compose an original piece of music which they will then perform together with a “fruity orchestra.” When asked “Can ketchup, a pencil, a banana and a potato form the basis of a new musical instrument?” the team behind the music and play programme Fruity Piano reply “Yes!” Any object – be it a piece of fruit or a piece of cutlery – when paired with special computer technology acquires a musical voice of its own. Have your own children ever performed on a banana bassoon or an orange harpsichord? The sessions are for children aged 3 to 14 and will be given in English and Russian.

For more detailed information about the project please go to the website of the ART-PARKING Centre for New Technology in the Arts (only in Russian).
