THE V INTERNATIONAL ORGAN FESTIVAL
16 – 29 September 2017

The International Organ Festival will be held at the Mariinsky Theatre for the fifth time.
Festival guests are to include Alexei Parshin (Honoured Artist of Russia), Birmingham City Organist Thomas Trotter, Italian musician Peter Kofler and Marina Väisä, who regularly takes part in organ concerts at the Mariinsky Theatre. The festival will also see appearances by Karol Mossakowski and David Cassan – for the first time as prize-winners at the international organ competition Grand Prix de Chartres. That competition, founded in 1971, is one of the world’s most prestigious organ competitions, its jury over the years having been directed by Pierre Cochereau, Gaston Litaize and Marie-Claire Alain among other acclaimed French musicians. The performances by the finalists take place at the monumental Chartres Cathedral.
In line with tradition, the musicians’ performances are adorned with improvisations. The festival will come to a spectacular conclusion with a performance by Thierry Escaich accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev.
