The International Organ Music Festival graces the Mariinsky Theatre for the eleventh time. Musicians will showcase diverse programs, spanning the repertoire of four centuries. The organ will not only resonate in solo but will also harmonize in ensembles, accompanied this year by the harpsichord, baroque cello, brass instruments, and mellifluous vocal cords.
The festival’s inaugural concert on October 13th is a heartfelt homage to Johann Sebastian Bach. Svetlana Berezhnaya will illuminate the evening with his compositions for both organ and harpsichord. Come October 17th, festival debutantes Alexei Shevchenko, Maria Uspenskaya, and Alexander Listratov will immerse the audience in the organ, harpsichord, and cello melodies from the masters of the Baroque era. On October 20th, laureates of the XVII Tchaikovsky International Competition, trumpeter Semen Salomatnikov and horn player Charles Reydellet, will enchant. Alongside Leonid Karev, a perennial participant in the Mariinsky’s organ recitals, they will serenade with French music from the 19th and 20th centuries – both in its original and transcribed forms. The evening will also feature a rare romantic trumpet concerto by Oskar Böhme.
Closing the festival on October 25th, Olga Kotlyarova will present a blend of German and French musical marvels. Culminating the concert and featuring the Academy of Young Singers ensemble, the Concert Hall will echo, for the first time, with Maurice Duruflé's Mass Cum jubilo.
