XII MARIINSKY INTERNATIONAL PIANO FESTIVAL
14 – 30 December 2017

For the twelfth time, the Mariinsky Theatre has invited pianists from across the globe to take part in the International Piano Festival. Over seventeen days at the Mariinsky II, Concert Hall and chamber venues there will be concerts of piano music – solo, ensemble and accompanied by orchestra. Audiences will again be able to hear performances by prize-winners of the Tchaikovsky Competition, regular guests at St Petersburg's music festivals and future stars of the international piano scene. For the first time several concerts will take place at the new Mariinsky branch, the North Ossetian Philharmonia.
Among the most important events of the festival are two monographic concerts dedicated to the anniversaries of Igor Stravinsky (17 December) and Rodion Shchedrin (24 December). As was the case last years, during the festival there is to be a series of concerts entitled Children for Children, which will see talented young musicians perform onstage. Individual festival programmes are entirely dedicated to major pianist-composers – Beethoven, Chopin, Granados.
Founders of the festival – Valery Gergiev and Mira Yevtich.
