THE II INTERNATIONAL HARP FESTIVAL NORTHERN LYRE
31 March – 6 April 2018

In memory of Yoko Nagae Ceschina

This year the International Harp Festival Northern Lyre will run from March 31 to April 6 at the Concert Hall and chamber halls of the Mariinsky Theatre for the 2nd time. The festival will gather the best performers, representing the St Petersburg harp school, as well as musicians from Serbia, Estonia and the USA.
The festival’s repertoire spans from medieval to modern music and includes academic, ethnic and jazz compositions. The harp will be played as a solo instrument in various arrangements (with vocal accompagnement and other instruments) and in concerto.
The festival is once again dedicated to harpist and philanthropist Yoko Nagae Ceschina, who helped many of the Mariinsky Theatre projects come to life.
In the run up to festival, on March 31, the Stravinsky Foyer will host a concert. The festival’s opening concert on April 2 will see the participation of the soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre, Seven Plus brass ensemble, Laterna Magica ensemble of medieval music and harpist trio from Serbia. The April 3 concert will feature the performances from British vocalist Dia Maria Dali and Estonian harpist Kristi Mühling, who will play the ancient Estonian harp called kannel. The April 4 concert is dedicated to 140 year anniversary since the birth of Ksenia Erdeli, renowned harpist and the founder of the Soviet harp school. The festival will close with a gala concert with the performances of the Mariinsky Orchestra and 10 harps.
The festival will also see master classes of Serbian professors Milena Stanisic and Ljiljana Nestorovska, as well as American harpist Maria Luisa Rayan.
