THE II INTERNATIONAL VIRTUOSI OF THE FLUTE FESTIVAL

From 8 to 12 March, for the second time the Mariinsky Theatre will host the Virtuosi of the Flute festival, entirely dedicated to music for that instrument. At the Concert Hall and chamber venues there will be performances of flute music from various eras and styles, from the baroque to contemporary opuses.
The opening and close of the festival will take place at the Concert Hall, accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra under Ivan Stolbov. Individual programmes focus on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons, duet compositions and flute ensemble works.
The festival will feature the participation of Mariinsky Orchestra musicians, the Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg Philharmonic (Honoured Ensemble of Russia) and orchestras from Moscow. Festival guests include soloists of Berlin's Philharmonie Emmanuel Pahud and Egor Egorkin, who will perform recital programmes and conduct master-classes.
