An additional performance of My Fair Lady at the Mariinsky Theatre on 20 February at 14:00

All tickets for the first four performances of the musical My Fair Lady were sold out several weeks in advance of the premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre. In view of the tremendous public interest in this new production, the theatre will be staging an additional performance of My Fair Lady on 20 February at 14:00.

Premiere performances of the legendary musical My Fair Lady (music by Frederick Loewe, libretto and text by Alan Jay Lerner after George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion and the film of the same name by Gabriel Pascal) will take place on 18 and 19 February (11:30 and 19:00) and 20 February (14:00 and 19:00).

This will be the first production of a musical by the Mariinsky Theatre. My Fair Lady is a co-production by the Mariinsky and the Théâtre du Châtelet, where the premiere took place to great acclaim at the start of 2011.

The Production Director is renowned Canadian Robert Carsen, who has staged numerous successful productions at the world’s leading opera houses. His production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni opened the current season of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. The production team also includes such established professionals as Tim Hatley (Set Designer), Anthony Powell (Costume Designer) and Lynne Page (Choreographer).

At the start of the season Robert Carsen supervised auditions for every role – from the leads to minor characters. In addition to young singers from the Opera Company and the Academy of Young Singers the cast will include performers from other theatres in St Petersburg such as Valery Kukhareshin (Youth Theatre on Fontanka) and Alexander Byron (Musical Comedy Theatre) as Professor Higgins. The role of Eliza Doolittle is being rehearsed by Gelena Gaskarova and Oxana Krupnova. All performances will be conducted by Gavriel Heine.
