On International Day for Protection of Children the Mariinsky Theatre will be screening a concert by the Children's Choir of Russia

To mark International Day for Protection of Children the Mariinsky Theatre has prepared a special programme – a screening of a concert by the Children's Choir of Russia conducted by Valery Gergiev, as well as several interactive online projects.

On 1 June at 19.00 Moscow Time on mariinsky.tv there will be a broadcast of an unprecedented concert which featured a thousand children from the eighty-three Russian Regions. The first appearance by the Children's Choir together with the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev took place and was recorded in 2014. For that occasion at the Mariinsky II the vast ensemble of a thousand voices performed popular songs from the children's choral repertoire. The programme included works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Sergei Prokofiev, Georgy Sviridov and Alexander Alexandrov, choral arrangements of songs by Aleksandra Pakhmutova, Isaak Dunayevsky, Arkady Ostrovsky, Yuri Chichkov, Dmitry Kabalevsky, Valery Gavrilin and Efrem Podgaits and Russian and Ukrainian folk songs. Establishing the Children's Choir of Russia was one of the most important projects of the All-Russian Choral Society under the chairmanship of Valery Gergiev. The concert broadcast will be available to view for twenty-four hours on mariinsky.tv, via the social networking sites VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and Facebook, as well as on the Mariinsky Theatre's YouTube channel.
