On 17 May at 19.00 mariinsky.tv will be broadcasting Sergei Prokofiev's comic opera Betrothal in a Monastery for the first time. The broadcast will also be available via the social networking sites VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. Following the screening, the online video will remain available to view for 24 hours.
This vivid, colourful and carnival-like production by stage director Vladislav Pazi and designer Alla Kozhenkova has been in the repertoire of the Mariinsky Theatre for over twenty years and invariably enjoys phenomenal success with the public. This cheerful opera is to be presented in a recording produced in 2016.
At that time, the Vladivostok premiere of Betrothal in a Monastery opened the I International Far East Festival Mariinsky, with soloists from St Petersburg appearing as guest performers in a stellar cast at the Primorsky Stage. The lead roles are sung by Larisa Diadkova (the Duenna), Yevgeny Akimov (Don Jerome), Roman Burdenko (Don Ferdinand), Sergei Aleksashkin (Mendoza), Yulia Matochkina (Clara), Yevgeny Akimov (Antonio), Violetta Lukyanenko (Louisa) and Yuri Laptev (Don Carlos). The Mariinsky Orchestra is conducted by Valery Gergiev.
