The Mariinsky online: Yekaterina Osmolkina and Kimin Kim in The Sleeping Beauty at the Primorsky Stage

As part of a series on mariinsky.tv, 14 May will see the first ever broadcast of a recording of a production by the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre (Vladivostok) – Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet-féerie The Sleeping Beauty. The broadcast begins at 19:00 Moscow Time (GMT+3) via the platform mariinsky.tv, as well as via the social networking sites VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. Following transmission, the video will remain accessible for 24 hours.

In January 2019 The Sleeping Beauty in Vladivostok opened the All-Russian Theatre Marathon. For that occasion the lead roles in the ballet were performed by guest artists from St Petersburg – the enchanting Yekaterina Osmolkina (Princess Aurora) and the inimitable Kimin Kim (Prince Désiré). The stellar cast also featured lead soloists of the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage: Anna Samostrelova (the Lilac Fairy), Lilia Berezhnova (the Diamond Fairy), Sergei Zolotaryov (Carabosse the Wicked Fairy), Irina Sapozhnikova (Princess Florine) and Oleksiy Skalyun (the Bluebird).

The production by Marius Petipa, revised version by Konstantin Sergeyev, that is familiar to St Petersburg audiences was rethought in 2017 by Eldar Aliev, Principal Ballet Master of the Primorsky Stage. While retaining all the key elements and aesthetics of the production, the choreographer has attempted to make his version as interesting as possible for a contemporary audience.
