The Mariinsky Ballet to Present Le Corsaire in Washington

The annual tour of the Mariinsky Ballet in Washington (the United States) will take place from 9 April to 14 April. The programme of the 17th tour of St Petersburg artists at the prestigious venue of the F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts includes seven performances of the ballet Le Corsaire with music by Adolphe Adam, Cesare Pugni, Léo Delibes, Riccardo Drigo, and Pyotr Oldenburgsky and with choreography by Pyotr Gusev based on the composition and choreography by Marius Petipa. The Mariinsky Theatre brought this ballet to Washington more than 10 years ago and had sold-out performances and halls full of delighted spectators. This time not only renowned artists will take part in the performances, but also newcomers of the Mariinsky Ballet. The Mariinsky Ballet on-tour performances will be accompanied by the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra under the baton of Vladislav Karklin.

The next tour of the Mariinsky Ballet to Washington is scheduled for October 2019. The dancers will present the ballet Paquita by Édouard Deldevez, Ludwig Minkus, Riccardo Drigo and with choreography by Yuri Smekalov and Yuri Burlaka (reconstruction and staging of Marius Petipa’s original choreography – Grand Pas in Act III).
