Valery Gergiev to appear in Germany and Austria with Janine Jansen and Rudolf Buchbinder

From 8 to 14 November Valery Gergiev will be running a concert series together with the Münchner Philharmoniker and internationally acclaimed musicians.

Three concerts at the Gasteig Philharmonie (Munich) will feature the brilliant Dutch violinist Janine Jansen. She frequently collaborates with the Munich orchestra, and this season she is its regular guest soloist. The programme comprises works by Sibelius (First Symphony), Bruch (Violin Concerto No 1) and contemporary composer Jörg Widmann, whose concert overture for orchestra Con brio (2008) is regularly performed by the German orchestra. On 13 November a similar programme will be presented at the Goldener Saal of the Vienna Musikverein.

The two evenings – at the Gasteig Philharmonie and the Musikverein – are being dedicated by Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker to composers whose anniversaries will be celebrated in the 2019-20 season. The concerts will open with one of Bruckner’s most famous and frequently performed symphonies, the Seventh. Then Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto will be performed by Rudolf Buchbinder, a renowned pianist and a great authority on this composer’s works.

On 8 November the orchestra will also invite the public to an open rehearsal at the Gasteig Philharmonie, where they will be able to observe the working process which is normally hidden from view.
