Ticket sales for events in December have opened: pre-Christmas and New Year performances and the XIV International Piano Festival

On the eve of Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Mariinsky Theatre playbill will be filled with fairy-tale performances and vivacious concerts. Tickets for events in December may be purchased from box-offices and on the official website of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Opera performances in December are to include Rodion Shchedrin’s A Christmas Tale, Sergei Banevich’s The Story of Kai and Gerda, Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Enchantress and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel and Sadko. A key place in the ballet repertoire will, in line with tradition, be occupied by Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker – the production will be performed by soloists both of the Mariinsky Ballet and by students of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. The series of classical productions will also feature Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Alexander Glazunov’s Raymonda, Herman Løvenskiold’s La Sylphide and Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam, Cesare Pugni, Léo Delibes, Riccardo Drigo and Pyotr Oldenburgsky among other works.

21 to 31 December will see the traditional International Piano Festival, a musical marathon that will bring together the world’s finest pianists and talented young performers at Mariinsky Theatre venues. The festival programme will be announced on 22 October.
