Daniil Trifonov to give two performances at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre

On 21 and 22 October the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre will host performances by the Mariinsky Orchestra together with the virtuoso pianist and composer Daniil Trifonov, winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (2011), recipient of a Grammy award (2018) and the title Artist of the Year from Musical America magazine (2019). Valery Gergiev will be conducting on both evenings.

The concert programmes are dedicated to Russian composers. On 21 October Daniil Trifonov will perform the solo in Alexander Scriabin's Piano Concerto, which in the 2019-20 season he will present at a series of performances with the New York Philharmonic as Artist-in-Residence and at the opening of the season of the New World Symphony orchestral academy. Under Valery Gergiev that evening the Mariinsky Orchestra will also be performing the suite from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroni and the suite from Igor Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird.

On 22 October the programme of the monograph concert will be dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev. It includes Piano Concerto No 2 and highlights from the music for the ballet Cinderella. In 2016, when the Mariinsky Theatre widely celebrated one hundred and twenty-five years since the birth of Sergei Prokofiev, Daniil Trifonov took part in a series of commemorative concerts with the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev, not just in Russia but also in the USA, Switzerland and Germany.
