On 30 and 31 August Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra open the 2016-2017 season with a tour to the Baltic Sea Festival in Sweden. At the Berwaldhallen Concert Hall there will be performances of works by Sergei Prokofiev

On 30 and 31 August at the Berwaldhallen Valery Gergiev will be conducting the Mariinsky Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra

From 1 – 4 November 2016 the Mariinsky Theatre will be hosting the II All-Russian competition and festival Music of the Earth. The idea of running a music forum where ethnic and classical music are brought together at one venue was the brainchild of the great pianist Boris Berezovsky

On 10 August the I Mariinsky International Far East Festival concluded with a grand concert by the Combined Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre and the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev with the participation of the internationally acclaimed Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos and South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son

On 10 August following a press-conference dedicated to the opening of the I Mariinsky International Far East Festival, the Artistic Director of the festival Valery Gergiev and Artistic Director of the PyeongChang Music Festival & School (South Korea) Mrs Myung-Wha Chung signed an agreement on collaboration

Immediately following the close of the I Mariinsky International Far East Festival in Vladivostok the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev are setting out on a European tour

From 4 to 9 August Valery Gergiev will be appearing with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in four Japanese cities

On 31 July performances of the opera Eugene Onegin at the Mariinsky Theatre and the ballet The Bronze Horseman at the Mariinsky II brought the forty-five-week-long 2015-2016 season to a close
