On 30 and 31 August Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra open the 2016-2017 season with a tour to the Baltic Sea Festival in Sweden. At the Berwaldhallen Concert Hall there will be performances of works by Sergei Prokofiev

On 10 August the I Mariinsky International Far East Festival concluded with a grand concert by the Combined Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre and the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev with the participation of the internationally acclaimed Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos and South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son
On 10 August following a press-conference dedicated to the opening of the I Mariinsky International Far East Festival, the Artistic Director of the festival Valery Gergiev and Artistic Director of the PyeongChang Music Festival & School (South Korea) Mrs Myung-Wha Chung signed an agreement on collaboration
