In October the Mariinsky Ballet Company will be undertaking a major tour of America. At two prestigious venues in California the company will be giving thirteen performances of the ballet Swan Lake – seven performances at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa and a further six at the renowned Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley. The company will then depart for Washington where from 16 to 21 October at the Kennedy Center there will be seven performances of Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella featuring choreography by Alexei Ratmansky. In Swan Lake, audiences in Costa Mesa and Berkeley will see established soloists Yekaterina Kondaurova, Yevgeny Ivanchenko, Danila Korsuntsev and Vladimir Shklyarov in the lead roles as well as other soloists who are performing major roles in this “calling card” of Russian ballet before the American public for the first time, among them Oxana Skorik, Timur Askerov, Maxim Zyuzin and Alexander Sergeyev. The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra will be conducted by Mikhail Agrest. The company returns to the Kennedy Center in Washington following an incredibly successful performance of a programme of ballets by Michel Fokine in January. Kennedy Center audiences will have the opportunity to judge two debuts in Alexei Ratmansky’s Cinderella, accurately described by the New York Times’ critic as a production “magnificently conceived and magnificently performed.” The role of Cinderella will be performed by Maria Shirinkina for the first time, while Maxim Zyuzin will be dancing as the Prince. Others engaged in lead roles include Daria Pavlenko and Yekaterina Osmolkina (Cinderella), Igor Kolb, Vladimir Shklyarov and Alexander Sergeyev (the Prince) and Sofia Gumerova, Alexandra Iosifidi and Yekaterina Kondaurova (the Stepmother).
