Viktor Baranov

Born in Rudny, Kostanay Region.
In 1984 he graduated from the Perm School of Dance (class of Yuri Sidorov). From 1984-1991 he danced at the Perm Theatre, creating roles in Vladimir Salimbaev’s The Seven Beauties (Bahram), The Cold Heart (Peter), The Stone Idol (Vagul) and Spartacus (Spartacus). Other roles included Siegfried, Albrecht, Désiré, Basilio and Orpheus.

Soloist with the Mariinsky Ballet from 1991, later becoming a Principal Dancer. He created roles in the ballets Spring and Fall, Sounds of Empty Pages (Double), Le Baiser de la fée (Youth) and Le Poème de l’extase. Also performed lead roles in the ballets Giselle (Count Albrecht), The Sleeping Beauty (Prince Désiré, Prince Fleur de Pois), La Sylphide (James), La Bayadère (Solor), Swan Lake (Siegfried), Raymonda (Jean de Brienne), “Paquita” Grand Pas, Le Réveil de Flore (Apollo), Chopiniana (the Youth), The Firebird (Ivan Tsarevich), The Fountain of Bakhchisarai (Vaslav), The Nutcracker (Prince), Romeo and Juliet (Romeo), The Legend of Love (Ferkhad), Anna Karenina (Alexei Karenin), In the Night, Apollo, Serenade, Symphony in C (I. Allegro vivo) and Jewels (Emeralds).

Coach and repetiteur with the Mariinsky Ballet since 2007. Also teaches classical duet dance at the performance faculty of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet.
