Alexei Popov


Alexei Popov was born in 1986. In 2005 he graduated from the St Petersburg Musorgsky Music College (class of Vitaly Serikov) in 2010 from the St Petersburg Conservatory (class of Veniamin Margolin and Mikhail Romanov) and in 2013 completed his postgraduate studies there with Viktor Sumerkin.

He was awarded a diploma and a special prize at the Mravinsky International Competition (2002), later becoming laureate of the Rimsky-Korsakov International Competition (2008) and Dokshitser International Competition (2009) as well as other competitions. As a student, he received a scholarship from the Rostropovich Foundation.

From 2006 to 2010 he was member of the St Petersburg Capella orchestra, since 2011 has worked at the Mariinsky theatre first as member of the stage band, since 2013 of the Youth orchestra and since 2017 as assistant principal trumpet of the Mariinsky Orchestra. In addition to his orchestral work he also plays solo and ensemble programs at the Concert hall and chamber halls of the Theatre.
