Rafał Blechacz has won numerous prestigious prizes and awards at festivals and competitions, both throughout Poland and abroad. in 2005 he won the XV International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw uncontested. This victory opened the doors to the world’s greatest concert halls for the pianist. He has appeared at Wigmore Hall (London), the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Herkulessal (Munich), the Alte Oper (Frankfurt), the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) and the Salle Pleyel (Paris). Rafał also regularly appears at festivals in Salzburg, Verbier, La Roque d’Antheron and the Ruhr. His performances have received praise from the critics and the public alike wherever he appears. He has performed with the world’s great symphony orchestras under conductors including Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Pletnev, Charles Dutoit and David Zinman.
In July 2010 Blechacz won the prestigious Premio Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Siena, Italy), which is awarded to talented young performers on an annual basis at the discretion of an international jury.
In 2006 Blechacz signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon, making him the second Polish musician (after Krystian Zimerman) to be enlisted by the prestigious label.
