Ming Xie was born in China and began to study music at the age of six. Ming Xie is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where he studied under Sergei Babayan. He is continuing his studies under Babayan as an Artist Diploma candidate at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Ming Xie’s other principal teachers include Emanuel Ax and Matti Raekallio. His previous training was under Hanguo Yang at the Affiliated Middle School of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu.
Ming Xie has won numerous prizes at some of the world’s most prestigious international competitions, including the Panama International Piano Competition (2016) where he won the Gold Medal, along with the Audience Award and the Ginastera Prize, the Sydney International Piano Competition (2016) where he was awarded the prize as "Most Promising Competitor", the Alink-Argerich Foundation Award as well as the Rex Hobcroft AM People’s Choice Prize and 2nd Prize at the Valsesia Musica International Piano Competition in Italy (2012).
Ming Xie enjoys playing on some of the best-known stages around the world. He has given performances at venues including the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Russia, the Palau de la Música in Spain, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Severance Hall in Cleveland and the Beijing Concert Hall and Jiaozi Grand Theater in China. As a guest artist and festival participant, he was invited by the Schimmel Summer Piano Academy in Germany in 2012 and the Piano Academy Eppan in Italy in 2014 as well as the 2016 Mendelssohn Piano Academy in Leipzig.
Ming Xie’s most recent highlights include his Russian debut under the baton of Valery Gergiev with the Mariinsky Orchestra as part of the II Far East Music Festival Mariinsky in Vladivostok; his recital tour of Oceania begins in Auckland, followed by Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth in March, as well as recitals in New York, Bogotá and Panama City. In the 2017-18 season, Ming Xie will be making his
London debut at the prestigious Wigmore Hall with a scheduled return in the 2018-19 season. Another highlight of this season includes a South American tour that features a return to both Panama City and Bogotá, as well as Buenos Aires, Medellín and El Valle.
This is his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre.
