Konstantin Volostnov

Organ

Konstantin Volostnov was born in Moscow in 1979. He began playing the organ at the age of eleven. In 2004 Volostnov graduated from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where he studied under Yury Martynov (piano, harpsichord), Alexey Parshin (organ) and Alexei Lubimov (chamber ensemble). In 2007 the musician completed his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory (class of Natalia Gureeva) and graduated from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart (class of Ludger Lohmann; in 2013 he completed a postgraduate course with distinction).

Prize-winner at the International Competition for Young Organists in Opava (Czech Republic, 2000; 2^nd prize and special prize for the best performance of a piece by a contemporary Czech composer), the St Albans International Organ Festival (Great Britain; Douglas May Award (2003), 1^st prize, Audience Award, Peter Hurford Bach Prize and special prize for the best premiere performance of John Casken’s Sacrificium (2009)), the International Organ Competition Schramberger Eberhard Friedrich Walcker Preis (Germany, 2008; 1^st prize) and the Alexander Goedicke International Competition for Organists (Moscow, 2008; 1^st prize and special prize for the best performance of works by Russian composers).

Volostnov has toured throughout Russia, Europe, the United States and Canada. He has collaborated with such conductors as Valery Polyansky, Kent Nagano, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Mikhail Pletnev and Vladimir Minin. Frequent participant in such festivals as Moscow Autumn, Musical Kremlin, as well as organ festivals in Chartres, Madrid, Santiago de Compostela, St Albans and the Moscow International Organ Festival.

The musician’s discography includes the recording of all of Mendelssohn’s organ sonatas, the CDs J.S. Bach and Romantic Organ Music and J.S. Bach: Concerti, Sonatas, and Toccatas for Organ, as well as Organ Music by Moscow Composers Teaching at the Moscow Conservatory. From 2005 to 2006 he was Artistic Director of the Federal Philharmonic of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. Since 2010 Konstantin Volostnov has taught at the Moscow Conservatory.
