Viktor Ukhalin


Oboe

Born in 1976 in Leningrad, Viktor Ukhalin graduated from the St. Petersburg Musorgsky Musical College and St. Petersburg Conservatory where he studied with Prof. Valery Sobolev.

Since 1999 he has been member of the Mariinsky Orchestra as Assistant Principal Oboe and Cor anglais. As a member of the orchestra he has toured in more than 40 countries, performing in Albert Hall, Covent Garden, Salle Pleyel, Metropolital Opera, Carnegie Hall, Suntory Hall and others. He took part in the Mariinsky concerts in Tskhinvali (2008) and Palmyra (2016). In addition to his orchestral work at the Mariinsky he plays solo and chamber programmes in the Concert Hall and chamber halls. Viktor Ukhalin is the first oboist in St. Petersburg to play the bass oboe.

Since 2008 he has taught oboe and cor anglais at the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Music College. He is a member of the youth competitions jury and conducts master-classes for the students of the musical schools in St. Petersburg.

He plays the Marigaux oboe, Patricola cor anglais and Gebrüder Mönnig bass oboe.
