Zlatomir Fung


Cello

Zlatomir Fung was born in 1999 in Corvallis (Oregon). He began to study the cello using the methods of Suzuki at the age of three. He currently studies under Richard Aaron and Timothy Eddy at the Juilliard School.

Appears with the Juilliard Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra (Bucharest), the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Santa Cruz Symphony (California) and others. Works with Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Markand Thakar, Itzhak Perlman and Daniel Stewart among other conductors. Appears at London’s Wigmore Hall, in many cities in the USA and Great Britain, at the Dresden Musikfestspiele and the Giverny Chamber Music Festival. Has taken part in masterclasses given by Lynn Harrell, Frans Helmerson and Steven Isserlis.

Prize-winner at the Irving M. Klein International String Competition (San Francisco, 2014; 1st prize), the Stulberg International String Competition (Kalamazoo, Michigan, 2014; 1st prize), the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players (Washington, 2015; 1st prize), the George Enescu International Competition (Bucharest, 2016; 1st prize), the Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition (Harbin, 2018; 1st prize), the Paulo International Cello Competition (Finland, 2018; 2nd prize) and the International Tchaikovsky Competition (2019; 1st prize and Gold Medal).
