Alexander Kasyanov


Baritone

Graduated from the Gnessin State Musical College and the GITIS Russian Academy of Theatre Arts. Undertook a postgraduate traineeship at the vocals faculty of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts and trained at the Galina Vishnevskaya Centre of Opera Singing.

Since 2005 he has been a soloist at the Centre of Opera Singing, where he made his debut as Grigory Gryaznoi in the opera The Tsar's Bride. There he also performed the roles of Onegin and Shchelkalov in addition to working on his tenor repertoire (Lykov, Don José and Vaudémont).

In 2011 he took part in the Opera Tampa Young Artist Program (Florida) under baritone Sherrill Milnes.

Since 2014 he has been a Guest Soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, where he has made appearances in The Tsar's Bride (Gryaznoi), La Bohème (Schaunard), The Queen of Spades (Tomsky), Iolanta (Ibn-Hakia) and Katerina Izmailova (Police Chief).

Alexander Kasyanov made his Mariinsky Theatre debut as Escamillo in 2017.

Repertoire also includes: Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Valentin (Faust), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Silvio, Tonio (I pagliacci), the Conte di Luna (Il trovatore), Baron Scarpia (Tosca), Iago (Otello) and Igor Svyatoslavich (Prince Igor).
