Itziar De Unda


Itziar De Unda was born in Bilbao, where she completed her musical studies at the Conservatorio de Música, accomplishing the highest academic degree in singing. Simultaneously, she took a piano degree and a master’s degree in Contemporary History at Deusto University.

She made her debut at the Euskalduna Theatre in her home town with the opera Die Zauberflöte, returning there for operas including Les Contes D’Hoffman, Manon Lescaut, Jenůfa, Rigoletto and Le nozze di Figaro.

She has also sung at other Spanish theatres including the Malaga Theatre (La Bohème), and she repeated Jenůfa at the Teatro Cervantes in Malaga. At the Arriaga Theatre she has sung operas including Il viaggio a Reims, Der Schauspieldirektor, the zarzuela El barberillo de Lavapiés (which she sang again at the Teatro Calderón in Valladolid), Parsifal at the Galicia Auditorium in Santiago de Compostela, Le nozze di Figaro (this time in concert) at the Teatro Principal in Zaragoza, La costurerita at the International Festival in Santander and Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro Campoamor in the city of Oviedo.

She has performed highly distinctive concerts and recitals: in Italy together with the internationally renowned tenor Mario Malagnini; several concerts directed by Vasily Petrenko with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León; in Madrid as part of the bel canto season directed by the tenor Enrique Viana; a concert as part of the Isaac Albéniz Festival with the pianist Rubén Fernández Aguirre; as part of the IX Zarzuela Festival which was held at the Teatro Principal in Santiago de Compostela; various concerts organised by the Arriaga Theatre; and appearances in several concerts organised by the Alfredo Kraus Association.

Within the oratorio genre, she has sung Mozart’s Krönungsmesse and Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle at the Euskalduna Theatre.

She has collaborated with various prominent stage directors including Jiří Kout, Yves Abel, Alberto Zedda, Alain Guingal, Antonello Allemandi, Renato Palumbo, Vasily Petrenko, Paul Goodwin, José Miguel Pérez Sierra, Eduardo López Banzo, Giancarlo del Monaco, Emilio Sagi and Gustavo Tambascio.

She was a prize-winner at the Ciudad de Logroño International Singing Competition (2008).

Among her forthcoming performances, of particular interest are her appearances as Micaëla in the opera Carmen in Irun and in the opera Don Carlo, organised by ABAO for the 2015-2016 season at the Euskalduna Theatre.
