Irina Cherednikova


Costume Designer

Irina Cherednikova was born in Leningrad. Graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (course taught by Edward Kochergin).

She has worked as a production and costume designer at numerous drama and musical theatres throughout Russia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, Poland and the USA. She has been involved in more than two hundred new productions. Over the course of ten years she taught theatre costume construction at theproduction faculty of the St Petersburg Theatre Academy. Has taken part in numerous professional exhibitions in St Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, Prague, Berlin and Nový Sad. Diploma-recipient at the Prague Quadrennial (1983 and 2006), recipient of the Golden Sofit prize (2005, 2016, 2021) and of the Russian Academy of Arts’ silver medal.
Has worked on productions of The Flea (Irkutsk), The Green Bird (Alexandrinsky Theatre), The Flatterer (St Petersburg Academic Akimov Comedy Theatre), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (the Russian Theatre of Estonia), As You Like it (Baltic House), The Gambler (Milwaukee Repertory Theater), The Government Inspector (Norwegian National Theatre), Boris Godunov (Bulgaria), Romeo and Juliet (Samara Academic Maxim Gorki Drama Theatre), Lady with Lapdog, A Month in the Country and Quartet (Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre).

Has collaborated with such directors as Lev Dolin, Yuri Butusov, Alexander Galibin, Sergei Artsybashev, Anatoly Praudin and Roman Viktyuk among others. Regularly works together with the designer Alexander Orlov.

At the Mariinsky Theatre Irina Cherednikova has designed such productions as The Enchanted Wanderer (2009), The Lefthander (2013), Eugene Onegin (2014), The Queen of Spades (2015), A Christmas Tale (2016), Not Love Alone (2017), The Tsar’s Bride (2018) and The Snow Maiden (2020).
