Athanasios Paivanas


Chorus Director and Conductor

Athanasios Paivanas was born in Corinth.
He studied singing under Thrasyvoulos Stanitsas, arch-protopsaltis (first cantor) of the Constantinople Orthodox Church.
Received his bachelor’s degree in Byzantine music at the Piraeus Conservatory (class of Professor Giorgos Malaphis), and also attended the Athens Conservatory and studied classical vocals with the acclaimed opera tenor Giorgos Zervanos. For ten years he was a chorus singer of the Organisation of Telecommunications of Greece.
Teaches Byzantine music at the Hellenic Conservatory in Athens, is a regular speaker at music conferences, conducts master-classes and runs seminars in performing Byzantine music.
