Alexandra Makarova


Conductor

Alexandra Makarova was born in Leningrad in 1986. In 2010 she graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire as a choral conductor (class of Boris Abalian) and in 2015 she completed a postgraduate study at the conservatoire. Teaches at the Glinka Choral School.

Prize-winner at the International Jāzeps Vītols Conducing Competition in Riga (2009, IV prize and Special Prize of the Latvian Radio Chorus) and the International Boris Tevlin Choral Conducting Competition in Moscow (2014, 1st prize).

From 2005–2011 she directed the Chamber Chorus of Graduates of the St Petersburg Lyceum of the Arts. Since 2008 she has directed the Festino chamber chorus (St Petersburg). From 2011–2013 she headed the student chorus of the Preparatory School of Music in Daejeon (South Korea). Under her direction the ensemble took second place at the International Choral Competition in Busan (South Korea) and undertook a tour of South East Asian countries.

In 2013 she founded the Chamber Chorus of the Polytechnic University, which actively participates in festivals featuring amateur ensembles of St Petersburg. In May 2014 the chorus went on its first tour to Belarus.

Has also conducted the Student Chorus and Chamber Chorus of the St Petersburg Conservatoire, the Chamber Chorus of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Student Chorus of the Latvian Academy of Music, the Latvian Radio Chorus, the chamber orchestra Camerata Nordica and the chamber chorus Lege Artis among other ensembles.
