Gary Chryst has been acclaimed as the choreographer of the musical Chicago, staged on every continent except Antarctica. He staged Michel Fokine’s Pétrouchka for the National Ballet of Canada and American Ballet Theatre, performing as the Magician in the latter production at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In January 2008, Gary Chryst co-choreographed a new production of West Side Story in Brazil. Other choreographic credits include new American productions of South Pacific, Nijinsky in Japan and numerous MTV videos. Gary Chryst’s Broadway performing credits include Guys and Dolls, Bob Fosse’s Dancin’ and A Chorus Line. He has appeared on international tours of West Side Story and Chorus Line. Gary Chryst had an illustrious career as a classical dancer with the Joffrey Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater 3. He returned to the Joffrey in October 2006 as one of the Ugly Stepsisters in the company’s premiere of Frederick Ashton’s Cinderells. He has also performed as a guest artist with the companies of Twyla Tharp, David Parsons, Lar Lubovitch, Eliot Feld and José Limón and the programme Nureyev and Friends among others.
