With performances in Japan, the United States, Spain, Italy and Russia the international reputation of the Ballet of Bordeaux National Opera, directed by famous dancer Charles Jude since 1996, is firmly established. The Ballet was awarded the famous Serge Lifar Prize in 2001 and in October 2014, the Herald Angels Prize at Edinburgh International Festival in 2003 and the title of “Best Foreign Ballet” in Cuba.
The repertoire of the Ballet National de Bordeaux, consisting of forty dancers, includes classical and neoclassical works as well as pieces by contemporary choreographers. Created for the Ballet National de Bordeaux in March 2014, the ballet Pneuma is the result of the company’s second collaboration with Carolyn Carlson. Pneuma, inspired by the poetry of Gaston Bachelard, is a life-affirming work filled with fantastical imagery and set to music by Gavin Bryars.
