Premiere of Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Mariinsky Theatre
On 26 and 27 December and 24 January the Mariinsky Theatre will be presenting Jacques Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann – the first opera premiere of the season; Valery Gergiev will be conducting the production, directed by Vasily Barkhatov and designed by Zinovy Margolin with costumes by Maria Danilova

Valery Gergiev presents the Tchaikovsky Competition prize-winners in Baden-Baden
During the marathon of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s symphonies between 28 and 30 October, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra presented the XIV Tchaikovsky Competition prize-winners at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

The Teatro di San Carlo at the Mariinsky Theatre
On 19, 20 and 21 October as part of the Year of Russia and Italy the Mariinsky Theatre will be hosting a tour by the oldest theatre in Europe: two hundred and fifty people from the orchestra, chorus, opera company, stage staff and acrobats have arrived from Naples to give two performances of Ruggero Leoncavallo’s opera I pagliacci (staged by Daniele Finzi Pasca) as well as a gala concert.

In the 2011–2012 season at the Mariinsky Theatre and the Concert Hall audiences will be presented with a huge variety of interesting concert programmes, opera and ballet premieres, performances by acclaimed ballet and opera stars and symphony and chamber music.

Premiere of a fantasy opera at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre
21 and 23 July will see the final premiere of the season at the Stars of the White Nights festival. The Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre will be presenting Benjamin Britten’s opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream, based on William Shakespeare’s comedy.
On 21 July one of the lead roles – the simple Bottom – will be performed by the outstanding British singer Sir Willard White and Valery Gergiev will be conducting.

BP and the Mariinsky Theatre agree three-year russian culture tour in UK
BP and the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg’s renowned opera and ballet company, today announced a joint programme that will give music lovers in the United Kingdom the chance to experience the very best of Russian opera, ballet and classical music. BP will provide support for the Mariinsky Opera, Ballet and Orchestra tours to the UK in the three years to 2013.
