On 14 March Viktor Korotich (baritone), soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers, will be performing the role of Figaro the barber in Gioacchino Rossini’s opera Il barbiere di Siviglia.

12.03.2010    Irina Golub’s debut in the ballet The Little Humpbacked Horse

On 13 March Irina Golub, one of the Mariinsky Ballet Company’s leading soloists, will be performing the role of the Tsar Maiden in Alexei Ratmansky’s ballet The Little Humpbacked Horse to music by Rodion Shchedrin for the first time.

09.03.2010    Anastasia Matvienko’s debut in the ballet Serenade

On 10 March Mariinsky Ballet Company soloist Anastasia Matvienko will be performing the lead role in George Balanchine’s ballet Serenade to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky for the first time.

06.03.2010    The opera The Nose conducted by maestro Gergiev in New York

On 5 March Valery Gergiev conducted a premiere of Shostakovich’s opera The Nose at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

06.03.2010    Debuts in the one-act operas L’Heure espagnole and Gianni Schicchi

On 7 March tenor Dmitry Koleushko will be performing the role of clockmaker Torquemada in Maurice Ravel’s opera L’Heure espagnole for the first time, while soprano Karina Chepurnova will be making her debut as Lauretta in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Gianni Schicchi. These operas, performed in Russian, will be performed on the same evening at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Coloratura soprano Lyudmila Dudinova will be performing the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni for the first time at the Mariinsky Theatre on 5 March.

03.03.2010    A performance by Academy students at the opening of the Year of Russia in France

Soloists of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers, directed by Larisa Gergieva, gave a concert for the first visitors to the exhibition A Window on Russia, which opened on 2 March at the Centre de Russie pour la science et la culture in Paris as part of the Year of Russia in France.

On 2, 3 and 4 March the Mariinsky Ballet Company will be performing in Moscow as part of the Golden Mask Russian theatre festival.

Maestro Gergiev took part in the transfer of the Olympic baton to the town of Sochi during the festive closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Vancouver.
