Due to the close of the 2009–2010 theatre season, the Mariinsky Theatre’s box-office hours will change.

18.07.2010    Debuts in the opera Carmen

16 July witnessed two debuts in the opera Carmen: Zhanna Dombrovskaya and Oleg Sychov performed the roles of Micaëla and Zuniga for the first time.

13.07.2010    The Mariinsky Theatre in Baden-Baden

From 16 to 20 July the orchestra, chorus and soloists of the Mariinsky Opera Company and of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers will be performing under Valery Gergiev at the traditional summer music festival in Baden-Baden.

09.07.2010    Anna Kiknadze and Viktor Korotich awarded honorary titles

Following a decree by Taimuraz Mamsurov, the leader of Northern Ossetia, the title of People’s Artist of the Republic of Northern Ossetia-Alania has been awarded to Mariinsky Theatre soloist Anna Kiknadze (mezzo-soprano). Viktor Korotich (baritone), a soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers, has been made an Honorary Artist of the Republic of Northern Ossetia-Alania.

09.07.2010    Debuts in the ballet Giselle

On 6 July at the Mariinsky Theatre Oxana Skorik and Maxim Zyuzin made their debuts in the lead roles of Giselle and Count Albrecht in the ballet Giselle.

30.06.2010    The Mariinsky Theatre’s tour to Mikkeli

From 4 to 8 July Valery Gergiev will be conducting the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra as part of the XIX Valery Gergiev Festival in Mikkeli, Finland.

21.06.2010    Leonidas Kavakos’ performance has been cancelled. Instead, nine-year-old pianist Ju-Hee Lim will be performing on stage.

On 22 and 23 June 2010 at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre as part of the Stars of the White Nights festival, the nine-year-old pianist Ju-Hee Lim, Korea’s new wunderkind, will be performing with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under Valery Gergiev instead of the planned concert featuring the violinist Leonidas Kavakos, who has been forced to cancel his concerts St Petersburg and other European cities due to illness.

19.06.2010    Alina Somova as Juliet

Alina Somova made her debut as Juliet in  the ballet Romeo and Juliet on 18 June at the Mariinsky Theatre. She was partnered by Andrian Fadeyev, who returned to the stage this season after recovering from a serious injury.

19.06.2010    A debut in Sergei Prokofiev’s opera The Fiery Angel

On 20 June mezzo-soprano Elena Vitman will be making her debut as the Mother Superior of the Convent in the Mariinsky Theatre’s striking production of Sergei Prokofiev’s opera The Fiery Angel.

17.06.2010    Montblanc New Names prize awards ceremony

On 18 June at 12.00 a press conference at the Mariinsky Theatre will announce the names of the recipients of the Montblanc New Names award, in line with tradition presented during the Stars of the White Nights Festival.

Changes to the playbill

Information for audiences:

On 24 October, instead of the planned performance of the opera Duke Bluebeard’s Castle and an evening of piano music, at 15.00, the Mariinsky Theatre will now be staging a premiere of the opera Věc Makropulos (The Makropoulos Affair).
Tickets may be returned to the theatre’s box-offices

On 28 October
, the opera Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Mariinsky Theatre will now commence at 18.00 and not at 19.00 as previously announced.
Tickets remain valid


On 29 October at the Mariinsky Theatre, instead of a recital there will be a concert performance of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Tsar’s Bride featuring Olga Borodina as Lyubasha.

The performance of the ballet La Sylphide at the Mariinsky Theatre, previously planned for 30 October, has been moved to 31 October, starting at 19.00.
