Andrey Karabanov


Baritone

Born in Leningrad. Graduated from the Leningrad State University in 1977 and Leningrad Conservatoire (class of Prof. I.A. Alexeev and G.V. Zastavny) in 1983. Has trained at the Mariinsky Theatre under K.S. Laptev in 1984-85 Joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 1985.

His repertoire includes: Figaro/ Bartolo/ Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Shchelkalov/ Boyar (Boris Godunov), Ferdinand/ Father Shartrese (Betrothal in a monastery), Robert (Iolanthe), Marcello (La boheme), Dancairo (Carmen), Valentin (Faust), Giorgio Germont/ Comissioner (La traviata), Valentin (Faust), Eletsky (The Queen of Spades), Venetian merchant (Sadko), Streshnev (Khovanshchina), Roderigo (Otello), Japanese envoy (The Nightengale), Yakuside/ Prince Yamadori (Madama Butterfly), Worker/ Coachman (Katerina Ismailova), Nazarene (Salome), Worker (The Fiery Angel).
Has worked with the such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Yevgeny Kolobov, Yuri Temirkanov, Maris Yansons.
Has toured with the Mariinsky Theatre throughout the world.
