Born in Germany, Frank Philipp Schlössmann studied at the Mozarteum Academy of Art in Salzburg. Since 1991 he has worked as a freelance designer for such directors as Andreas Homoki, Olivier Tambosi, Götz Friedrich and Harry Kupfer. He has worked for companies including the three opera houses in Berlin, the Teatro Bellini in Catania, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Staatsoper in Munich, the Staatsoper in Dresden, Amsterdam Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Cologne Opera, the New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Metropolitan Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera, Dublin Opera, Vienna’s Volksoper, the Opernhaus Basel, the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, the Teatro la Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, the Staatsoper in Hanover and the Budapest State Opera. Recent projects include Tosca at the English National Opera in London, Manon Lescaut in Chicago, Der Rosenkavalier in Berlin, Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival and Jenůfa at the Metropolitan Opera and the Los Angeles Opera. Future projects include Die Meistersinger von Nürnbergat the Komische Oper Berlin and Věc Makropulos (The Makropoulos Affair) with the San Francisco Opera.
