Costume Designer Irina Cherednikova


Lives and works in St Petersburg. She has staged and designed the costumes for over one hundred productions in music and drama theatres in Russia, the USA, Norway, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia and Finland. They include Rimsky-Korsakov´s The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia, Tchaikovsky´s The Queen of Spades (the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg), Glinka´s Ruslan and Lyudmila (the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow), Gogol´s The Government Inspector (the National Theatre, Oslo), Shakespeare´s A Midsummer Night´s Dream (Russian Drama Theatre, Tallinn), Shakespeare´s As You Like It (Baltic House, St Petersburg), Shakespeare´s The Merry Wives of Windsor and Goldoni´s The Flatterer (Comedy theatre, St Petersburg).
Her numerous awards include a diploma from the Prague Quadrennial – 1995 international exhibition of stage design and theatre architecture, a Golden Sofit, St Petersburg´s highest theatre award, for the costumes in Molière´s Don Juan (Komissarzhevskaya Theatre) and Pushkin´s Little Tragedies (Alexandrinsky Theatre) and the silver medal of the Russian Academy of Arts for her costume sketches for The Brothers Karamazov (Mayakovsky Theatre, Moscow). Theatre sketches by Irina Cherednikova are kept in the collections of the St Petersburg Theatre Museum and Theatre Library, the Museum of Musical Theatre (Moscow), the Museum of Children´s Theatres and private collections in Russia, Bulgaria, Norway and the USA.
