Teresa Reichlen

Teresa Reichlen was born in Clifton, Virginia. She began her dance training at the age of ten at the Russell School of Ballet under Thomas and Ilona Russell, Mary Rogers and Margaret McGarry. In 1999 Teresa Reichlen took part in the summer programme of the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet. She entered the SAB full time in autumn the same year. In October 2000, Teresa Reichlen became an apprentice with New York City Ballet and in October 2001 she joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet. In January 2005 she was promoted to the rank of soloist and in October 2009 was made a Principal Dancer.

Since joining New York City Ballet, Teresa Reichlen has performed featured roles in George Balanchine’s ballets Agon, Apollo, Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet, Concerto Barocco, Coppélia (Dawn), Episodes, the Four Temperaments, the Nutcracker (Sugarplum Fairy, Dewdrop, Coffee and Flowers), Harlequinade (La Bonne Fée), Rubies from Jewels, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Titania and Hippolyta), Monumentum pro Gesualdo, Orpheus, Prodigal Son, Raymonda Variations, Serenade, Stars and Stripes, Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2, Union Jack, Western Symphony (Rondo) and Who Cares?, Ulysses Dove’s Red Angels, Peter Martins’ Barber Violin Concerto, Naïve and Sentimental Music, the Sleeping Beauty (Lilac Fairy) and Swan Lake (Odette-Odile, Pas de quatre, Russian Dance, Princesses), Benjamin Millepied’s Plainspoken, Jerome Robbins’ Fanfare (Harp), the Four Seasons (Summer), the Goldberg Variations and Moves and Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain and Polyphonia. Teresa Reichlen has been the first performer of major roles in Mauro Bigonzetti’s Luce Nascosta.

She has also been the first performer of corps de ballet roles in Boris Eifman’s Musagète, Robert La Fosse’s Land of Nod, Peter Martins’ Chichester Psalms, Susan Stroman’s Double Feature and Christopher Wheeldon’s Carnival of the Animals.

Teresa Reichlen was the Janice Levin Dancer Honoree for 2004-2005.
